The Colorful Destination
|
| |
We left early morning on May 15th to drive to our destination - Plano, Illinois - for a Senior Event at the Plano Christian Church. It rained most of the day into the early evening hour, causing more drive time being added to the trip. Just as we were about two hours from our destination, we saw the dark, stormy clouds start to disperse and a far away sky started turning Pink & Lavender. I jokingly said, "We are going to have a Sunset", to Shirley. Within just a few minutes after I said that, around 8PM, the Sun started coming out from behind the stormy clouds and we saw hues of Pink, Purple and Lavender fill the sky. As the rain and clouds moved away, the horizon colored even more, and then filled the whole skyline as if it was "Welcoming Us" to the State of Illinois. What a magnificent sight and Sunset we observed.

Plano Senior Project Coordinators

Plano Christian Church is a nondenominational church of approximately 250 members. Our Pastor, Stan Motley, is amazing in so many ways. Our goal is to grow a vibrant, growing seniors' ministry at Plano Christian Church and provide an outreach to unchurched seniors in the local communities. Our specific goals are to provide seniors with additional resources/events to learn, to build relationships with other seniors, to use their own skills and knowledges in serving others, to grow and keep an attitude of joy, gratitude, and love, and to continue to make a difference in the world around them. The May 17th session is focused on kicking off an aggressive effort to meet these goals. We want this kick off session to be upbeat, high energy, interesting, get folks in the door and set the foundation for future sessions. Shirley W. Mitchell is the blessing that will pull this all together. Seniors can have all kinds of activities and informational sessions, but if they don't have a good foundation - one that is built on a positive attitude, joy, and gratitude, then they just put in time year after year.

Senior Survey...
|
| |
We see men and women in their senior years as a rich source of talent and ingenuity, capable of using their vast experience in making a difference and helping others.
Plano Christian Church is presently growing its Seniors’ Ministry in order to tap into this talent and meet the needs of all seniors in the area (whether or not they attend a church). This ministry will be an “addition” to the many excellent efforts in our local communities and by our local churches. In order to be effective, we need to know what activities, events, etc. will best serve your interests and needs.
Please help us by completing the attached survey. We do not need your name – that is totally optional. We do need your input and help! Thank you for taking the time to complete this survey.

God took hold of that request and here is what He came up with for 2008: facilitator for a Beth Moore Study, small group bible study (James), mentor to a Mom for Mom group at our church, teach our adult Sunday School class (when we have a rotation and I take my turn) , Grace cconnection ( ladies group of ministry at our church). She enjoys hobbies of gardening, sewing, and crafts. She conducts numerous Bible studies for women at her church. Holle has executed numerous events both in her career as well as in her volunteer work which currently involves event planning, the latest of which is serving on the Seniors Project Team at Plano Christian Church.

Total Living Network-Significant Living Magazine
Total Living Network ...
Significant Living - Founded in 1994 as the non-profit Christian Association of PrimeTimers (CAP), the organization sought to respond to the interests and needs of American Christians 50 and older. CAP was chartered to encourage this measurable population in its spiritual growth and development. Members were challenged to use their God-given gifts throughout life and in volunteer service. Moreover, they could benefit by participation in services offered at discount prices. Keeping the organization's core values in place, yet seeking to strengthen and broaden its outreach, the organization underwent changes in oversight and management in 2003, and in 2004 was renamed Significant Living. As ever, the essential mission of Significant Living is to evangelize adults 50+, and to encourage active Christian adults in their middle and later years, to support them in their values, and to provide them with opportunities to enhance their quality of life. Significant Living is hosted by veteran television personalities Jerry and Shirley Rose. Married for over 40 years, the Roses know what it's like to traverse the various stages of life and marriage. For over thirty years Jerry Rose has served as the president and CEO of the Total Living Network.

Upon leaving the Senior Event at the Plano Christian Church on May 18th, we went on to Wheaton, Illinois, where the Billy Graham Center is located. We toured thru the Museum while there - what a magnificent Honor to Billy Graham and those before him...! It started to rain again once we started on the road in the early evening hour, heading back to Alabama. After about three hours on the road, we saw the dark, stormy clouds start to move around and a far away sky once again started turning bright yellow. Within just a few minutes, around 7:30PM, the Sun started coming out from behind the stormy clouds and we saw hues of red and orange fill the sky. As the rain and clouds kept moving around the sunset, the horizon colored, it was if the whole skyline was saying "Good-Bye" to us and "Have a Safe trip back to Alabama. What better way to end a Fabulous Weekend, a Sensational Event, and an accomplished journey for new found friends.
